The new traffic rules regarding auxiliary vehicles

The new traffic rules regarding auxiliary vehicles come into force in Poland on May 20, 2021. According to the new rules, this is a device or equipment for sports and recreation, designed to move a person in a standing position due to the strength of the muscles. These include an electric scooter or a personal transport device, that is, an electrically powered vehicle, without a seat and without pedals, structurally designed to be moved exclusively by the driver who is on this vehicle. From May 20, 2021, persons moving with the help of these devices are full participants in road traffic. Rules for the use of these vehicles and movement on them have been introduced. For example, they must move on a sidewalk, footpath, cycle path or a road with the speed limit of 20 km/h. In addition, children under the age of 10 are not allowed to operate such devices (only allowed in the living area and under the supervision of an adult). More information can be found in the Road Traffic Regulations (Prawo o ruchu drogowym – Dz. U. 1997 Nr 98 poz. 602).
