Report from meeting of Programme Council of Rule of Law Institute, which took place on 21 February 2009 in Kazimierz Dolny
In the meeting, following persons participated: Judge of the Supreme Court in retirement Maria Teresa Romer, Dean of the Law Faculty of KUL ks. Prof. Antoni Dębiński, Mec. Charles Szymański as well as President of the Euro Net Robert Kuczyński. In the meeting couldn’t participated: Partner in the White&Case Witold Daniłowicz and Dean of the County Advocacy Council in Lublin Piotr Sendecki, who justified their absence. Moreover following persons participated: Prof. Delaine Swenson, Arkadiusz Siechowicz and Dr Tomasz Sieniow as members of Foundation Management and as well many co-workers and volunteers participated.
Meeting was directed by Tomasz Sieniow, who in the beginning welcomed and introduced participants. Next Delaine Swenson presented history of Foundation in visual presentation “Foundation: Past and Present”. Next, discussion about short as well as long term strategy of the Foundation began.
As the first of the members of the Programme Council, presented his opinions dean Dębiński. Firstly he shared his positive impression, which the presentation about Foundation projects, made. Moreover, he proposed all the possible help from Law Faculty and further cooperation (for example in training programmes and street law project)
Next, Judge Romer took the voice. She proposed to conduct a research about changes in law concerning access to courts. She pointed out the differences in waiting for court decisions among different cities in Poland. Judge proposed to create a survey among judges, which would allow to identify problems and which of them cause such a delays in court procedures. In the similar tone, president Kuczyński, made his speech. He proposed to take an interest in the judges motivation.
Mecenas Szymanski proposed to focus the Foundations activities on mediation. In the end of the meeting Tomasz Sieniow thanked to all for their attendance.
